Avast error

Hi
A small orange pop-up appeared at the right corner of my computer
saying that an error occurred and Avast can’t be updated. I then clicked
Avast icon to open it and it said “Avast error has occurred:2
Try to reinstall or contact support, please”.
I tried to uninstall it and it also says there is an error and it can’t be
uninstalled.
How can I uninstall it?
Another thing I notice that I can’t download mp3 programs. I
get a message that says the server can’t communicate with
the website. Does it have to do with the Avast issue?
Thank you for your help.

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first and boot.
  2. If it fails, use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation. Boot.
  3. Install again the last avast version and boot again.

Do you have any other antivirus in this computer?
Any firewall?

Thank you
I unistalled Avast and booted. Before re-installing it I want to tell you
the programs I have installed in my computer. I have Ad-Adware SE Personal,
CCleaner, TuneUp Utilities 2007 and Avast (uninstalled).
The problem I told you about not being able to download the mp3
is a problem with the site. They just sent me this notice.
“Important Notice
Due to technical difficulties, TV/Radio broadcasts and Audio Teachings
are currently unavailable. We are working to fix the problem.” ;D
It had nothing to do with Avast.
Thanks again.

Glad to know 8)

Hi
I went few days before reinstalling Avast.
Now I got the 4.7 version.
So I unistalled Avast like you told me to do, booted, reinstalled, booted, scanned and this is what I got; 178 files unable to scan. Is that normal?
For instance;
C:\System Volume information.…\instwiz.css Unable to scan: Ar…

I tried to scan individually clicking on one of the listed files and I got a dialog saying;
“An error has occurred during the processing of 1 result(s)”

Thanks,
haydee

avast gives the reason why a file can’t be scanned, you may need to expand the column width to see the full text.

Many programs (usually security based ones) password protect their files for legitimate reasons such as AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy, there are others (and avast doesn’t know the password or have any way of using it even if it did know it).

When you run scans with the above programs and you delete harmful entries that they detect, a copy is kept (in quarantine/restore/backup) in case you need to reverse what you did. These are usually password protected, you should do some housekeeping and delete old backup/recovery/quarantine entries (older than two weeks or so), this will reduce the numbers of files that can’t be scanned.

By examining 1) the reason given by avast! for not being able to scan the files, 2) the location of the files, you can get an idea of what program they relate to. You may need to expand the column headings to see all the text.

Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.
