Avast Essential: Install very slow, then fails

Hi All,

I am trying to install Avast Essential on a fresh Win 7 installation. When I run the installer, it runs (downloading/installing various Avast files) for ~3 hours, then it fails. Unfortunately I closed the failure window, but I did copy the log file, and have attached it (install_error.txt). Can someone help me troubleshoot this?

Of Note:

This is a fresh Win 7 install, but the computer itself is quite old (processor: AMD Athlon II X2 270, RAM: 2GB DDR-400).

Thanks in advance.

“avast essential” ? What’s that suppose to mean or be?

Sorry, avast! Free Antivirus. It’s labelled as ‘Essential’ on the download page, so I mistook that for the name.

ANYWAY, while I’m here I guess I should state that the problem is resolved for now. I tried to install for a 5th time, and after about 1.5 hours of downloading/installing, it completed successfully. Not sure what’s happening–I have a feeling I currently have a slow internet connection.

Here is how you should have done it:

  • Install Windows
  • Install all drivers for that system
  • Visit the windows update website and install ALL updates
  • Remove / Disable Windows defender
  • Install avast
  • If everything is working, create a image of the drive

Between the steps you need to reboot one or sometimes more times.

You weren’t able to download virus definitions due to broken Internet connection. Consider downloading full avast! installer.

Good to know, thanks. can I mark this thread as resolved somehow?

Sure.

No, I’m asking if there’s a formal flag I can set for this topic that marks it as resolved? I don’t see one.

There is no such thing. Just put [SOLVED] behind the topic.

Got it, thanks.
