Avast Expiration Notice

Hi,

Upon booting this morning I got an Avast pop-up I’ve never seen before warning me that my registration had expired. I sort of freaked and missed the chance to capture a screenshot of the pop-up though. I checked my registration in Avast as soon as the pop-up went away and it says I’m good till Sat., Dec 1, 2007.

I’ve been using Avast for quiet some time now and I’ve never seen a pop-up like the one I got this morning from Avast. How do I verify my registration? How can I verify this was indeed a “real” Avast pop-up and not something masquerading as one? Are there any screen shots of the various Avast pop-up notifications anywhere I can look at and compare the one I got to?

thanks in advance,

  • Edit to add - Forgot to say the date & time are correctly set on my computer.

Do you use what type of Avast Pro or Home???

Home, version 4.7.1043.

It may just be saying that it is about to expire and not it has expired.

If you are using the home version it isn’t a problem, you could re-register now rather than wait to 1st December
Complete the avast! 4 Home Registration form and you will receive an email from register @ avast.com (without the spaces) with your registration key.

Did you put in the day (Sat) in the information you typed or was that in the about avast Update expiration: field ?
The reason I ask is that the day isn’t mentioned in mine.

The day (Saturday) was in the about Avast when I clicked on it. I didn’t put it there.

appreciate the help,

Actually it hasn’t expired, it just warns you 1 month in advance that it will soon expire. You can also check your clock and date in case if it’s set wrong.

Some time ago there were some cases where the Expiration or Update Expiration included the Day, these however, seemed to be in Pro versions that were cracked.

Not the case with your Home version, so I’m not sure if since you last updated the format has changed or if it depends on a system date format set in windows. But no problem, I would say just go ahead and re-register now and enter the new key when you get it in the email.

To be more specific, it starts warning you 3 weeks before it actually expires (which makes sense, as it is November 10th, so it will really expire in 21 days = 3 weeks).
You’ll see the popup next time you restart the machine (or in a couple of hours).

Cheers

Ok, thanks everyone.

Like I said I’ve been using Avast a while and had never seen that pop-up before. I re-registered and everything seems fine but I’m going to be watching my computer closely for the next few days.

I just spent the better part of a day scanning with Hijackthis, Windows Defender, Root Kit Revealer, Spybot, Ad-Aware, and three different online scanners last week. I hate to have to have to repeat the process again so soon if I don’t absolutely have to. I just ran Hijackthis and compared the log to the log from last week and I see no changes between the two logs I didn’t expect so I believe everything’s ok.

Really appreciate the quick responses from everyone.

Thanks again,
