I just went to Eicar to get a ‘virus’ to test silent mode to see if it would automaticaly move a virus to the chest (it still doesn’t, & no I’m not buying the pro version :-*) and there is now a download via ‘secure ssl enabled protocol’ since I last went there.
I tried to download the files that way and everyone downloads withOUT Avast detecting them as a ‘Virus’ ???
Does this mean anything relevant ? Is it an issue, if yes why is Avast not detecting it that way, whats the difference?
Presumably eicar have added them as a download like that for a reason.
is the file named eicar.com or has it another name ?
Have you tried to acces the file or just downloaded ?
Remember it is NOT a virus so maybe that’s why Avast! doesn’t alert you (not sure about this) ???
Anything you download via secure ssl protocol (like accessing your bank account) is encrypted so that the stream cannot be read - that’s the whole point of ssl (secure sockets layer).
So, it also means that the stream cannot be scanned by avast (or any other antivirus product for that matter.
I assume the eicar site provided this method so that folks can really get a “virus” file to play with since many other avenues of getting hold of the virus file are going to be blocked.
