:)Ive just found the problem.
It was my Windows firewall. It was also blocking my uTorrent connection.
I set my Firewall to default, not only is uTorrent now working, but my Avast is now updating normally.
Sorry Avast not your fault.
That’s good news. How exactly did you set the windows firewall to default?
What flavour of windows are you using? I’m on Vista 32

Go into windows firewall with advanced security.
On the right hand side, under actions you`ll see “restore defaults”.

It should happen at least daily…
Well, for what it’s worth, auto updates are now working fine. The price was a total reinstallation of Vista. I did have other problems also so it’s for the best. Only had the PC from new a couple of months!!
