Avast fatal setup error FarBar logs

As recommended in this thread:
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=161939.0

Here are my FarBar logs.

And since you attach those log i assume you have a problem?.. any info about that?

Aha …i see you have posted here also https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=161939.msg1158075#msg1158075

Yeah, I was advised to post here “just in case”

Holy shizzles!

Umm, just out of curiousity, are they doing anything? Avast! SEEMS to have installed correctly (Aside from the 200 processes running of course).

Any RAM/CPU usage notable?

Haha, that was my reaction when I noticed!

As far as I can tell they’re idling. They all have 0% CPU usage constantly and sit between 2,496kb and 2,528kb RAM usage. Their description says “avast! antivirus Update” and I believe they just keep appearing after a set amount of time, rather than being triggered by any of my inputs.

When you re-installed did you use the standalone installer or the online installer ?

I downloaded this one: http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10019223.html?part=dl-85737&subj=dl&tag=button
I guess that’s the online installer.

Yep it is … Lets use the standalone as there is less chance of corruption with that

Download Avast Uninstall Utility to your Desktop.
Download the correct version of Avast
Avast Free
Avast Pro
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier
Disconnect from the net
Uninstall Avast via control panel

[]Run the uninstall tool and accept the reboot to safe mode
[
]Once complete reboot your system
[*]Reinstall Avast

Done as you advised and the popup issue still persists. However I currently have no AVAST * 32 processes active, so that may be solved. I will check further in a while.

OK another thought… When you uninstalled Avast was the c:\program files\ avast folder removed ?

I do not know. I will uninstall again and let you know.

Just checked after an hour or so and I now have 30 AVAST * 32 processes running, so that issue still persists too.

OK after the uninstall if there is an Avast folder in programme files then manually delete it prior to re-install

Done! That seems to have fixed it  I have restarted twice since re-installing and I have no popup.

Thank you so much! I wonder, could you tell me what the issue there was? The folder was empty after uninstalling, so does the installer just assume if the folder exists that some files still exist?
I don’t have any AVAST * 32 in my processes as of yet, but if I do get any I’ll update you.

Edit: forgot to mention - there was a file named AVAST in the C:\Program Files\ that I deleted after the uninstall (it was last modified September 2013) - that may have been causing the issue?

Yes that appears to be the cause, although why I have no idea
