Avast! File System Shield down, can't start it

My Avast! has been screwing up, saying the file system shield isn’t active. The program says a reboot is required, although rebooting did nothing to aid the error. I tried to reinstall the program, but on uninstall it told me that I have to reboot to complete Avast’s last action. When doing a smart scan, it seemed to finish really quick, although I don’t know how long a smart scan should take due to never using it before (it said no virus+malware was detected). No other shields are down.

I use Windows 8.1 64-bit if it is important. I have no other Anti-Virus programs installed, and never had another. I am however running Malwarebytes and SpyBot with Avast!, but that hasn’t troubled me before.

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

The error for reboot stopped after I clicked the reboot button in Avast! and is gone now. Curious how when I rebooted through Windows nothing happened. I am going to reinstall now (by the way there was no repair button).

Sorry, but that’s not the same problem? My problem was that it didn’t start at all, although I am trying some of the steps listed in that forum already. It seems similar to my problem anyway, so it doesn’t seem like I couldn’t follow that thread.

All is fixed now. Thanks for your quick help!

You’re welcome.
