Avast Filtering NDIS Driver Question

Just downloaded and ran a program that lists all the drivers currently on one of my Dells.

In looking through it I noticed that the Avast Filtering NDIS driver was listed twice.

Both drivers are in what I believe is the correct location; i.e., C:\Windows\Systems32\Drivers

The drivers are identified as belonging to the Avast Personal Firewall.

Here are the two drivers and then I will ask my question

Description: Avast Filtering NDIS driver
Filename: aswNdis.sys
Version: 5.0.332.0
Date Modified: 2-23-11

Description: Avast Filtering NDIS driver
Filename: aswNdis2.sys
Version: 6.0.1021.0
Date Modified: 3-7-11

Notice the name change in the second driver.

Question:

Can I safely delete the older driver?

I wouldn’t have any idea - but just a thought - might an uninstall/reinstall of the firewall component get rid of one (or alternatively, if it leaves one behind when uninstalled that might be a clue that it’s not needed)?

It doesn’t seem to be hurting anything so I am not going to mess with uninstalling/reinstalling the firewall component.

I think it might be an unneeded left over from 5.x and can probably just be deleted.

However, since it is the Firewall that we are talking about and it doesn’t seem to be hurting anything I will leave it for now unless one of the Avast Team says that it is okay to delete.

Alternatively I could go to “Support” and ask the question.

For now I will wait and see if a Avast Team member replies on this thread.

No, both the drivers are needed.
