few months ago avast started blocking my linux file server, if I disable firewall works just fine
same linux is my DNS and gateway
also avasts firewall blocked avast own update, did not start downloading update untill disabled firewall

It is just a matter of settings up things correctly.
Check the FAQ on how to setup rules/exclusions and such.
