Shortly after updating Avast today (7/13/17), my browsers, both Chrome and Firefox, could no longer reach the internet. Multiple reboots, netsh>winsock restet, clear browser histories, etc. Nothing worked. Turn off Avast Firewall: network access restored. Currently running boot level scan, nothing found yet, but don’t understand the total shutdown without any warning.
Currently running boot level scanDont understand why so many is doing this?
have you tried this? https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB204#artTitle
I’ll try that next. This has happened before. Apparently Avast bloks internet access while installing updates. Usually internet access returns once the update is complete. Would be nice to get some warning messages. This morning browsers worked and then started returning DNS errors. Turn Avast Firewall off and everything works. Seemed like something a sophisticated malware would do to get the user to turn their firewall off.
After waiting 4 hours for the boot scan to finish, network access restored. I’d still like some warning when Avast decides to cut off network access.
