Could you try the firewall now, a repair may be required
@ Asyn, essexboy.
manliom has repaired and clean installed Avast! a couple of time already. No dice.

I asked him to get help here thinking that his sys could have either some remnants of an older FW or AV, or malware, or even some corrupted Windows file.
Thanks.
True but I have just removed wincert which may have been blocking it.
Thanks for the info Hernan.
Yes essexboy, I saw it. No problem Asyn.
Now to wait for manliom to answer. Thank you guys ![]()
Thanks all, I’ll just go to repair option and tell you what happend
Unsuccessful…
Now the firewall appears installed but the module is not running and I can’t change the status…
Have you just repaired up until now or have you done a full re-install yet
Do you have a lot of aswtdi drivers in device manager
Go to Control Panel > Device Manager.
Under the View drop down select Show hidden devices
Open the Plug and Play section
Are there any yellow triangles there
I did both, first repair and then reinstall. In both cases: unsuccessfully. Sorry
Anything in the device manager ?
Please see the image
And no error is displayed, just the service not starting ?
yes
Have you had another firewall on the system at all, or have you ever had McAfee on there
No, nothing else with the windows firewall in diseable status…
OK I will have a rummage around and see if I can find any cause for the firewall to be blocked
Download and run farbar service scanner
http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/Farbar/FSS-1.jpg
Tick “All” options.
Press “Scan”.
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
Please copy and paste the log to your reply.
