Avast firewall is blocking my basic functions, and I can't help it

Hi
Im using Avast Internet Security, full paid version, and ever since I installed it the firewall has been driving me mad. I cannot use basic things when it’s on.

  • I cannot print anything on my printer (wifi printer)
  • can’t connect to chrome remote desktop (within my local network)
  • it’s messing with my PLEX dlna functions

I tried everything to create application rules etc, but nothing seems to work in these cases. The only thing I can do is temporarily disable firewall - even to print something out…
I created every possible rule to allow PLEX to do everything but I cannot update my libraries when firewall is on.
The same with chrome remote desktop - this one is actually funny because I can use it from outside of local network (so when I switch my phone to LTE, it works), but within home wifi, firewall blocks it.

Please help. I really wish I haven’t chosen avast as my firewall at this point.

Is your firewall network profile in puplic or private mode?

Try change…

Firewall FAQ https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/Antivirus-Firewall-Application-Rules

Currently in private mode. I tried both, doesn’t help.
I can see them blocked down in the list of applications managed by the firewall.

Tried a reboot?

Yep, a reboot can work wonders.

Yes I rebooted my computer many times. It didn’t happen suddenly. It’s been like this for months, 5 months to be exact. I just lived with it and tried different things to fix it, until I decided to look for help here. I’m fed up with having to disable my firewall each time I want to do a basic task like print something.

  • Which version of AIS…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

AIS version 18.8.2356
Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, version 17134.407 (I think)
No other security software
Previously I was just using the free version of Avast antivirus, and upgraded to full AIS in July.

Selecting private network mode is often all it takes

also check file sharing on/off

Like I mentioned, I have private network selected. Tried both options.

Where can I find that file sharing? is it a setting in AIS?

Have AIS.

Check settings below. I don’t have a wireless printer, so my settings are different.

File Sharing is a Windows Setting.
