Avast Firewall is not functioning

Good morning
Avast updated this morning and the Firewall no longer works. And I am unable to turn it on. everything else shields, etc. seem to be okay. I tried the troubleshooting option and after finding no malware or anything like that it pretty much became an ad for Grimefighter.

Is this a false positive as far as the Firewall is concerned? Not sure what to do next.
My license is valid until 2017…

Ty in advance

Hi there,

This is easily fixable via a clean install. The install seems to have become corrupt.

Note: It’s important you used the stub online installer from the one I linked… NOT the offline one.

Note: You need to be ONLINE during this install (online installer works in all cases whereas offline sometimes doesn’t)

1.Download your version of avast! and the avastclear tool:
Avast Free Antivirus
Avast Pro Antivirus
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier
Download Avast Clear Tool

  1. Uninstall Avast by control panel [If you don’t have Avast in control Panel go to #3]
  2. Uninstall in safe mode using Avastclear. [Running Avastclear is normal mode will give a prompt to go into Safe Mode]
Check : Once uninstalled check in device manager>view>show hidden devices if there is anything related to avast with a yellow triangle… if so, uninstall it and reboot.
  3. Install the version you downloaded.
  4. Reboot.

Note : If you have a paid license, insert the license key/activation code after the reboot at stage 6.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. It’s better to ask than make a mistake and start over again with the process.

Thank you so much!

I assume the code for my paid Avast is the same one I received when I purchased it this time.

If I have any issues I will come back. Thanks again!

The code is the same.

If it doesn’t work : https://www.avast.com/resend-license-paid.php

You’re welcome.

Is this download supposed to be fairly lengthy because it is.
Started at 54 minutes and now I look and it is an hour and 15.
I don’t ever remember it taking so long originally.

Just want to make sure that I am doing what I should be and the download is acting properly.

Avast Internet Security installer is 193mb.

If you have that one, it is correct.

I do! great thanks. 30+ minutes to go.

I think I am all set.
Followed your steps and it has been reinstalled and everything is functioning. Firewall included!

When I installed the new Avast the option for the code/key was there in that window(30 day free trial or asking if I had already bought a product) so I put it in before the install.

So after the final reboot there didn’t seem to be a need to put the code in again?
It says I am secure and the firewall is running.

So thank you!
And if there is anything else I should do please let me know.
;D
