Avast Firewall not installed??

Hi there,

While installing Avast Internet Security, a messsage popped up that the firwall could not be installed.
My only choice was to “Continue” which I did, & now am wondering how I would know if my Avast firewall is actually running.

Any ideas??

By opening the avastUI and checking the Firewall section if it is running, which I somehow doubt if avast said it couldn’t be installed.

Do or did you have another firewall installed when you tried to install AIS ?

I had the windows firewall on…

Well the avast firewall is designed to be compatible with the windows firewall if you have that running. The only disadvantage of that is if the avast firewall didn’t happen to be on the Windows Security Center wouldn’t alert you to that as the windows firewall would be on.

Did you check the avastUI to see if the avast firewall is actually running ?

I don’t see anything at all about the firewall anywhere.

I was thinking that maybe I should uninstall Avast & re-install…what do you think? & is there anything I should do before uninstalling?

I would try a repair of avast first. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

thanks…will try that

ok…did that…received notification that it had updated, but still no mention of Firewall.

hmm…could it be called comething else?

I really can’t be any practical help as I don’t use the AIS version, check the Help Center link in the avastUI and see what that says.

Hi there,
You could always uninstall avast and perform a clean reinstall:

1.Download the uninstall utility here. Click Save and save the file to a folder on your computer.
2.Download your avast! product here. Click Save and save the file to a folder on your computer.
3.Click Start, Control Panel. Double-click Add or Remove Programs. (If you use Vista or Windows 7, this would be called Programs and Features)
4.Select the avast! product.
5.Select Uninstall and click Next. Follow the steps provided. Restart your computer.
6.Start Windows in Safe Mode
7.Navigate to the folder where the uninstall utility was saved and run it.
8.If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note that the content of any folder you choose will be deleted)
9.Click Uninstall and restart your computer
10.Navigate to the folder where the avast! Setup Package was saved and run it. Restart your computer again to complete the process.

You need to add the license file (probably) to get the firewall (my guess).
The firewall should be there…

thanks for the response…

I had decided to uninstall & re-install Avast & worked just fine.

Then I received instructions from Avast to do just that ;D
