Avast Firewall Question [SOLVED]

G’day  ;D

How can I manage the firewall settings in Avast Premier 2015 and Avast Internet Security 2015 to increase security level when I connect to a public network?

When using your computer to connect to a public network, open the Avast user interface, click Tools, select Firewall and switch the firewall from Private mode to Public mode to ensure the maximum level of security. This is the most secure setting, and if selected, no incoming communication will be allowed effectively making your computer invisible to others.

With this quote above how many of you AIS users find in between from Private mode to Public mode to ensure the maximum level of security, how well in control when operating via computer by a user shouldn’t have to worried to much in between software because I like to know if their a whitelisting for all software that been approved and software trusted by Avast where can I find it.

IF I wanted it to set my firewall as Public mode to ensure the maximum level of security so I don’t have to worried to much about firewall pop-up control message all the time, otherwise this will drive me nuts and how secured is Private mode ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

And how do I report to Avast to allow a software to be approved and software trusted by Avast.

Set the firewall to ask

Wonderful that’s what I’ve been trying to do thank you essexboy.

Also thanks for Pondus sending me this link https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB25#artTitle via PM, because I was looking for a complete user manual PDF file of AIS 2015 and nothing.

Edit:- WHY! Can’t Avast keep the firewall simple like Outpost Pro, simple and straight forward…Man! this gunna drive me NUTS!

There are some that would give you an argument about Outpost Pro being simple and straight forward.

Entirely depends on what settings you have and for many they don’t understand what the setting will do.

I get lots of HIPS based popups as I have it on Optimal or Advanced settings.

I don’t get lots of HIPS based popups at all, only when your updating a software, patching and installing new software that’s all it very easy to keep it simple that doesn’t drive you nuts.

Just to add, I’ve found regardless of Firewall, it’s all about getting familiar with and knowledge of the Firewall. This takes time no matter what firewall is used.
We tend to support/like software we know very well.

Lucky me I’m using as a trial of AIS before I buy it before the end of 15th June because I’m planning to buy a 3 year license for 1 PC for 60% off the original price which is a bloody great deal :o

And now I’m not so sure about Avast Firewall :o :o :-[ :-[ :-X :-X :-\ :-\

You could always get the AIS deal and not install the firewall and keep using your Outpost Firewall Pro lifetime license ;D

I know I’ve been thinking about that too, I’m trying very hard not to give up on Avast Firewall before I decided to bring back Outpost Pro FW and give the Avast FW the middle finger ::slight_smile: :o :o

So far everything seem to be okay with the Avast firewall thanks to essexboy for the trick

I’ve decided to go ahead and buy the AIS a 3 year license for 1 PC for 60% off the original price which is a bloody great deal :o

And if this doesn’t work out well with the Avast FW and I’m going to do just what David has said in post #7

And when the license expired I will go back to Avast Free and my Outpost Pro FW…Maybe cause Avast might improve the Avast Firewall in the future before my license expire will see.
