This has happened to me twice and i cant figure it out. The only options iv changed in the firewall
settings was to make avast ask me how to handle a connection attempt, but every time is asks me, it remembers my answer, i even made sure of this by checking the app rules. I dont see how
that would have an effect. If i didnt have the firewall set to ask me, i wouldnt have even noticed it!
Because since it was asking me, one day i noticed it was asking me about things i have already allowed.
So i opened up the application rules and they were all gone, but were there before. At first i didnt care, no big deal. But it
happened again today. Eventually, this will get annoying. Some times, when i reboot it remembers everything, sometimes it does not and i have to allow everything again. What do you guys think is going on?
Just about every firewall I’ve ever tried does occasionally forget, or misinterpret (the latter’s more common), application rules. If the rule has totally disappeared from your list, I can’t explain but it should ask for permission again the next time the app tries to access the internet and hopefully will “remember” it a little better next time.
In the more common case where the application rule is still showing but is not working properly, the more or less standard solution is to simply delete the rule so it needs to ask permission and re-create the rule next time.
Hope this helps. I don’t have the avast firewall, just the free a-v, so I’m not familiar with “our” firewall.
Some applications has issues (like Virtualbox from time to time).
Better would be an avast installation from scratch.
