Everytime I update Avast (engine, not program), the folder size grows by several MB.
The current size is 220 MB.
Is there a way to clean up unnecessary files?
Thank you.

Avast does it’s own housekeeping from time to time which will bring the size of the program file down automatically, mines on 233mb at the moment.
Avast does its own housekeeping a new VPS (virus definitions) update, although incremental creates a new (combined) DEFs sub-folder. So generally you will see the current and previous definitions sub-folder. These old sub-folders are periodically pruned by avast.
So over time it should be fairly stable, but would obviously grow a little as new virus definitions are added to the database.
Thank you. I appreciate your help.
No problem, glad I could help.

Both from my own system and the other replies, it sounds like your Avast files are just about dead-on typical … mine total 219 MB. Admittedly that’s just under Program Files, there’s more in Docs & Settings/Application Data, plus undoubtedly some drivers in the Windows system folders.
