Avast for Business unable to download install files

I was recently looking into switching to Avast for Business and decided to give it a try on one of the clients. Using the management console to build a install file means that this error comes up:

As there is a system proxy, I have tried adding the proxy (at least thrice now) to the install file but it doesn’t show the proxy in the log and it does not work; I’ve used all 3 options for the exe.

Offline installer works, but does not communicate with the management console, even after having the proxy set up in avast and left overnight (more than the “10 minutes” it asks for).

If anyone has any ideas, it would be appreciated.

No other AVs are running, no firewalls are blocking it (as avast update works with the offline installer once the proxy has been set up), but my guess is that the proxy settings are not being put in the customised installer.

The below is just a theory, but worth trying…

If your proxy server requires authentication, then this might be your problem.
The Avast services are logging as Local System on the machine and this account does not use the IE proxy settings by default.

Can you try changing the Logon As setting of all Avast services to an Administrator account.
Then check if the machine connects to the console and check if the client updates fine now.

If this works, revert the Logon As settings and follow the below instructions to troubleshoot further:

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  2. Type the following commands:

netsh
winhttp
show proxy
import proxy source=ie
show proxy

  1. Check the client connection and updates.
