Just finished to translate the avast.pot file into Portuguese (Brazilian).
Oh, need to boot into Linux to test the lenght of the dialogs…
I’ll send you, Dublin, by email soon. Hope it can be packed as the Brazilian version of avast! for Linux 8)
Anyway, there are few ‘mistakes’ into English version:

I’ve replaced this file
/usr/avast4workstation-1.0.4/share/doc/avast4workstation-1.0.4/avast.pot
with the new, translated one.
Boot.
Nothing happens, all that I get is the English version :
I need a way to test the lenght of the messages and the acent… I’m foreseeing problems… :-[
Maybe you can post the list of acented characters and their ‘translation’ into codes (ASCII or whatever) that must be into avast.pot file.
Localization is done via standard gettext [some quick gettext howto] package, .pot is template for .po file, .po file must be compiled into binary .mo file [gettext manual] and then placed into
directory, just translation of .po file is not enough for localized program.
You can install gettext package and compile .po to .mo yourself [Producing Binary MO Files], but I think that Dublin can compile it for you. After installation of .mo file do not forget to set LANG variable to pt_BR for avast! Linux Home in Portuguese.
Better if he can and the best will be release a possibility of download into the webpage. Few users will ‘follow’ all this way to get it into Portuguese.
Anyway, I’ll try later… now booted on Windows
Thanks Chocholo
It was just notice, that translation is not effective immediately and that further action with translated pot/po file (on Dublin’s side) is needed for localized program.
By setting LANG variable can be avast! switched to Czech language now, but maybe there will be some change, I don’t know, I am not a programmer
hi,
there’e a package including prepared ‘.mo’ file, please unpack it into your avast4workstation-1.0.4/lib/avast4workstation/share/locale directory and then run avastgui.
I’ve enabled the locale by running:
export LANG=pt_BR; avastgui
There’s also included pt.po file for possible correction. You can send me the updated file back.
We’ve converted the file into utf-8 encoding, please use this encoding!
gunzip: stdin: not in gzip format
gunzip: stdin: not in gzip format
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Saída por erro atrasada pelos erros anteriores

I think I need to pass the first step before to test this…
Btw, I found out that Passolo supports the PO format and included the Linux translation file into avast! project.
So, if you want, I can send you the Linux bundle in Passolo (for corrections, of course, not for testing).
But Passolo should be at Linux or the same Passolo I use into Windows?
If it’s the second one, no trouble, it will be much easier to work this way (all translations at Passolo).
By the way, isn’t there a help file for Linux?
Igor, you can say Vlk I finished the server version translation, if he’s not in a hurry I just want to read all over again to final adjustments.
