Avast! for Mac hangs at update

I have Mac OS X 10.5.4 (Leopard) and Avast! 2.74R0.

Since 2 days Avast! would hang very time update attempt is performed. It has to be force-quit to continue.

Note: ISP is not a problem, it’s 4 Mb/s connection and it still worked 2 days ago

Any ideas? Thanks!

Hallo,
please, be more specific - what does mean “hangs”? with round wait-symbol between background and stop buttons, and “Downloading update” message at the left? How many time does the application consume (use Activity Monitor or top utility)?

Our servers seem to be overloaded at the moment for some reasong, and with the rate 5-10 kB/s it might really take a while… I’ll check for more details.

Please, in such case of hang-up, do this:

  • in terminal utility, write: ps -lax | grep OS/avast
  • in the first line, the 2nd number from left is avast’s GUI’s PID
  • type lsof <that_pid> | grep ESTABLISHED

… and you will know which particular server is “in action”. the, you muigh try using web browser or wget or similar utility to access
the URL http://<that_server>/files/latest/mac/400.vps - probably, the server is overloaded, and the rate will be very low. this menas, it simply takes a while to complete.

At the moment, some servers are in such overloaded state now, but others are fully OK. Simply, quit and restart the gui, and fire manual update, to get another server, probably more healthy, for the next update connection. We’ll fix this at our side ASAP.
