Avast for WHS - PCs running Avast not found on Avast Server Console

Hi,

I have been running Avast on my WHS server and attached PCs for a couple of years without a problem but recently, I have noticed that the WHS Server Console application no longer detects the PCs when they are connected to the network and switched on [they are grey on the Avast page]. The WHS is displayed with the Avast version, VPS version, protection status and the Licence expiration. The only change that I have made recently is to update the Avast on all the PCs and renew and insert my new licence for the next period.

Could you advise me on how I can rectify the problem. All the PCs appear on the Computers & Backup application screen in WHS Console and backup each day without errors.

Cheers,

Steve

It is unclear to me where in the WHS console you can no longer see the attached PCs.

  1. Did you check the WHS Health Advisor to see what the status of your network is?

  2. Have you tried ot run a WHS system wide backup since you have had this problem? If so did it appear to work properly?

  3. Which version of WHS are you running?

  4. Have there been any Windows updates that involved WHS at or just before the time you noticed this problem?

You didn’t say how recent recently is. I mention this because yesterday’s Windows 2nd Tuesday of the month updates reset a bunch of the “Local Services” on my computers. This basically wiped out my network connectivity among my three W7-SP1 computers. I had to go back into W7-SP1 Local Services and reset a bunch of he programs from disabled to either auto or manual. I am not saying you are having the same problem but it wouldn’t hurt to look at your computer’s Local Services especially the one functioning as the WHS to see if the any of he Local Services have been changed by Windows thereby causing your problem. It did not appear to be a Firewall problem though I am far from being even knowledgeable when it comes to Firewalls yet alone advanced.
