If I accept the free upgrade from Windows 7, is it necessary to first remove Avast Free from my programmes and, after the upgrade, install a different Avast?
Cheers Ron
By all accounts it isn’t necessary there are several avast/windows10 topics in the forums.
Whilst I don’t have a win7 system that I feel is capable of running win10, so I won’t be installing it.
- Acer Aspire One, Win7 Starter (32bit) 10.1", 1024X600 screen, 2GB DDR3 RAM, Intel Atom N255 (1.5GHz dual core) CPU and 250GB HDD.
The key I believe is that if an AV is win10 compatible then there shouldn’t be a need to uninstall it.
Thanks David. I was reading some detail from a Microsoft site and it seemed to recommend uninstall first … but, then again, that is Microsoft’s opinion. Avast are better placed to know about Avast!

Remember, I’m an avast user so I’m not speaking for avast, just what I have gleaned from the forums.
Just another point, you have up to a year (I believe) to take them up on the offer to the free win10, so there is no rush to get it and install. That would leave a little time for avast to be fully compatible with the release version of win10 and for MS to release the inevitable early bug fixes
