[font=tahoma]This is not for me, but with a good heart, I’m doing this for another member. Apparently, the user could not autostart avast! (stumped me too, because there should be a autostart option) after it found a Win32: Trojan.Gen (Other). And his computer was “slow”.
HI there really good to hear from you!
Lets find out what the malware problem and maybe the start problem will fix itself
be really careful giving what could be seen as malware removal advice in the Spybot forum
can he upload the baddie to virustotal? and post the link
that will tell us who can deal with it (for free)
that would be diagnostic not malware removal
and a scan with Kaspersky just to see what’s out there
since Kaspersky on line scan DOES NOT REMOVE ANYTHING say so in your suggestion
IT’s nor MALWARE REMOVAL but diagnosis
if there is a hit Google it and see which reliable site has a thread on the baddies
can he upload the baddie to virustotal? and post the link
that will tell us who can deal with it (for free)
Explain that a Win32:Trojen gen is a generic detection and may be a FP
further information is needed
I’d suggest posting the hit be attached all zipped and password protected with password in body of the message to virus at avast.com
let’s find out what this thing (s) is/ are before working on why avast will not auto start
are you talking about scheduled scans?
keep up the good work
Wyrmrider
I’d suggest a scan with MBAM but since he’s posting in the Spybot forum I will not for now- you can if you think it’s best a second opinion is always good but this would move you into the malware removal area and you will get your hand slapped
[font=tahoma]Thanks wyrmrider, but this is not really the time be asking for scanning since you mentioned several hours of scanning from Kaspersky and MBAM.
You did not really answered my question, IMO. I was just asking if there is a option in avast! that will launch it during bootup. : (
avast starts at boot time (drivers, services) by default.
Maybe he just lost the avast icon on the system tray.
If this is so:
- Check the option in the Appearance tab of settings.
or - Repair your avast installation through Control Panel.
or - Make a link to ashdisp.exe in your startup folder
or - Add the path to ashDisp.exe into a value named avast! in the Windows Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
See picture here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=26155.msg213891#msg213891
If that does not help, please, uninstall, boot, install again, boot.
What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc.?
[font=tahoma]Thanks Tech. … Hrm.

Just forget it then. It seems like a trojan/malware problem. But thanks for the assistance. Apologies for the inconvenience. It could be possible that a trojan has disabled avast! from starting up.
The other forum will take care of it.
Yes, it could. But the icon (ashdisp.exe) is not the antivirus protection itself (ashserv.exe).
What tech is saying
look and see if ashserv.exe
is running
if it is the protection is on
good luck
and thanks for all the diligent work against malware
[font=tahoma]Thanks Tech. I’ll see what I can say…
This is not about me, FYI (it sounds more like referring to me). : /
