avast found these .exe file: fsg_4104.exe. I’ve choosen the removal function in avast free.
When searching the web, i could’nt find any information about this virus, even on this site. Does somebody know what kind of virus this is?
I don’t know how you searched, but the all mighty GOOGLE gave 630 results and the first one tells you exactly what it is.
Process File: fsg_4104 or fsg_4104.exe
Process Name: Trickler
Description: Application that is associated with the file sharing software iMesh. The application has many versions.
Company: The Gator Corporation
System Process: No
Security Risk ( Virus/Trojan/Worm/Adware/Spyware ): Yes
This is obviously not the virus name, simply the file that contained it. When avast identifies a virus it gives you a virus name, its location and filename that the virus was found in.
Without the virus name it is often imposible to identify the virus from the infected filename as many of these filenames are randomly generated in an attempt to combat weak AV programs looking for filenames.

It would appear to some sort of trojan, adware or spyware associated with Gator, monitoring your internet activity and then reporting home.

Welcome to the forum
I know that it’s easy to fill your forms and keep track of your passwords with Gator but, that critter bites. It’s considered spyware. There are other programs that can do the same thing and don’t contain any adware or spyware.
Ok, thanks all for your answers. Apparantly i din’t do an effective search with google. But new to me is that this virus/worm/trojan is related to Gator. I didnt use any software wich has gator stuff, i can think of. Normally im very keen to avoid such software. Strange.
But when this .exe file is removed by avast, is it still possible that Gator-like software is on mij pc?

Yes there is a change, I would say the software is still there. Are you using any p2p applications, trial version or anything like that? If you don't know or not sure perhaps the log of HijackThis can be of help to us. Can you post it here? Let us nail this sucker ;)

Don’t feel to bad, Gator is distributed with a lot of !!!free!!! software. Unless your very careful when the instalation of one of these programs is made, you wouln’t even know that Gator has been installed till it’s on your system.
