After installing Avast to get rid of adware, malware, trojans and all that, I cannot access any HTTP websites. The pages just won’t load. (avast shows that no viruses are present and the Browser Scanning shows no issues)
Firefox, says:
"Unable to connect
Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at www.example.com.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."
Only HTTPS websites will load (they do work normally).
I also tried Internet Explorer and Chrome. They can load HTTP websites but sometimes they might not load them. HTPPS websites are always loaded unless I have connection problems or something.
Also, Chrome always comes infected with a search engine hijacker even when I download from Google but Avast will show no issues.
I had BitDefender. Uninstalled via “Programs and Features”. I have Windows 8.1 with Classic Shell to make them have a start menu.
My Firewall is Windows Firewall at the moment. Yes, I know that it is only good at restricting legit programs. I tried with it deactivated, same thing so I activated it again and let it active.
The windows 8 firewall has outbound protection, but it is disabled by default, unless you enabled outbound protection then that shouldn’t be effecting it.
Uninstall possible remnants of previously installed AVs see, http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/, this has a collection of manufactures removal tools, so that should remove any remnants, registry, etc.
There is a Tool for Bitdefender listed in the above site.
The Bitdefender removal tool (referred to above) will likely fix your problem but in the event the problem persists you could try clearing FireFox Cache, Cookies etc.
Assuming you have a recent version of Firefox, click on the “Open menu” button (upper-right corner of browser) and Click on “History” (you may have placed “History” in your toolbar in that case just click on “History” on the icon on toolbar).
Click on “Clear Recent History…” You have a choice to select a time-range to clear, if the problem has been occurring recently you could try selecting “Today” otherwise select “Everything”. Expand “Details” if you need to then select what you want to clear. Unless you really need cookies badly it’s best to select all the choices (you may have to select cookies anyway). Click on “Clear Now” and see if this helps.
For example, http://kb.bitdefender.com/site/article/333/ does not load in any server. However, more websites no load in Internet Explorer but not in Firefox. it seems that I am not going to evade the format after all…
I will try to get one of the listed malware removal helpers to have a look at them for you.
I had a quick look at the two logs and see several things that need to fixed.
Please do not change anything on the system and wait for one of the helpers.
And don’t worry I will not hack your system, unless it gets me free beer ;D
