I have Avast free version 11.1.2241 and I am not able to know if updates are happening. The front screen says that “Everything is up-to-date”. On the update screen the connection says “Connection not established” and the last update received date is 4 days old. In the statistics screen, the number of updates received in last 24-hours is zero. In the ‘defs’ folder I see a sub-folder “15110801” (this is the same number shown in the ‘current version’ of update) and see files that have time stamp of today morning. I am bit confused at the status of update. Is the update happening or is there a problem to fix?

I am on Windows 8.1 Pro

What happens if you manually try to update ?

It shows that it is sending statistics and later says that I am upto date.

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

I did repair and left it for few days and the status is same.

  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

I had K7 antivirus. I uninstalled it before installing Avast.

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)…!!

Then:

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.
