When I installed the last build of avast (5.0.418 installed from scratch after I completely cleared 4.8 from my system) it only took 2 boot ups for startup to get back to normal but after I updated to 5.0.462 (through the avast UI) getting through the initial OS startup (that is from the first time I see the mouse pointer until the desktop has fully loaded) is now taking over twice as long as it should be (there should be barely a second between the black screen with the mouse pointer and the welcome screen now that has extended to at least 5 seconds and even then the blue welcome screen takes ages to show up completely) and I’ve already booted up my computer 4 times already and nothing has improved and it’s now really betting on my nerves.
And before anyone asks Avast has been the only anti-virus installed on my computer (I went through a complete gutting of 4.8 before I installed 5.0 ) and if anyone suggests a re-install I’m just going to remove avast completely and go to another program since I didn’t chose a anti-virus just to have to re-install it over and over again every time there is a problem.
demonix00, if you do not leave we say the solution (probably) to your problem, why are you asking?
avast 5.0.418 works in a lot of systems and the loading is not cluttered of worse than with 4.8 version.
If you don’t want to correct your avast installation, and there is no other security program that could interfere, I see no solution for you.
Have you checked the computer for SPYWARE as this will run in memory. Free MBAM Malware bytes is a good one to check the computer with!. Also use CrapCleaner free and remove all junk files off the computer and use the registry cleaner part of this & then defrag your main system drive to increase hard disk access speed, check if DMA is selected if availble and not PIO MODE.
Excuse me but I keep a extremely tight ship here and there was no problems until I updated to build 624 (plus avast has saved my computer a few times in the past from websites that have been hacked to distribute malware) plus after all that everything starts running as normal
I’m not talking about 5.0.418 I’m talking about 5.0.462 and to be honest the bootup time for 5.0.418 is exactly the same as the last few builds of 4.8 (except for when I first installed 5.0 when there was a slight delay in the startup sound which only happened for the first 2 boots after installation then after that everything went back to normal) except with 5.0.462 that process has slowed considerably and even after I get to the desktop it takes at least 20-30 seconds or more to load the three icons that sit in the system tray (it should only take around 4 seconds and that was the norm even with avast 4.8 ) and this isn’t normal for my computer.
Also the only reason I refuse to go through the process of removing and re-installing is because I never had these problems doing program updates in 4.8 and it is just going to annoy me if I have to uninstall every time a program update is released.
I see. Generally, my boot is not that fast, as I start quite some programs. I use Startup Delayer to control the startup order. But, indeed, I never had a fast boot. I’m used to it. I can’t compare what avast did to the boot time as it’s not in my intentions changing it for another antivirus, so I live with it. I understand your reasons though. Which are your startup programs?
Excluding all the regular items that start up like svchost.exe and others that are started as standard this is everything that starts at system start up (excluding the two parts of Avast that also run at start up)
jqs.exe
jusched.exe
E_FATICDE.EXE
PSIService.exe (Installed as part of Coral snapfire plus)
nvsvc32.exe
CTDevSrv.exe
CTSVCCDA.EXE
PDVDServ.exe
RichVideo.exe
SoftAuto.exe
SoftU.exe (this only comes up every so often and is related to the file above and is also my problem child program since whenever it is running it interferes with everything and doesn’t want to close when I shut down my computer and has to be forcefully ended)
rundll32.exe (two instances one related to my Nvidia graphics and the other for my creative X-Fi soundcard)
I took that from task manager so it may not be a complete list of all the third party programs that run at start up.
