Avast Free 7.0.1456 problems

Here are the specs of my computer:
Operating System: Windows XP Media Center Edition Professional 32-bit SP2
CPU: Core 2 Duo
RAM: 1.00 GB
Hard Drive: 110GB

My first problem, the double updating, the update sound comes in twice, on the second, the green update popup appears.

My second problem, the popup, if I want to view it again, the option “Show last popup message” is greyed out, I cannot click on it.

I’ve tried to repair my Avast, through the control panel, then I restarted after that, no luck, I preformed a full system scan, it’s clean, I’ve also tried a Boot-time scan, it’s also clean.

Please help.

Known issues, will be fixed with the next program update.

PS: Please update your XP to SP3…!!!

Thanks for the quick response. ;D

Yes, about that, actually, my seven-year-old PC came pre-installed with SP2, and I’ve tried to upgrade to SP3, however, there were some issues and glitches, and I had to downgrade back to SP2.

What kind of issues will I encounter if I can’t update to SP3? And what can I do to improve security if updating to SP3 is not of the possible?

Another inquiry, I’m thinking of trying out Xubuntu, since my PC is seven-years-old, I would like something lightweight and build for older computers, my question, is there Avast on Xubuntu? What are the differences between the Xubuntu version and the Windows version?

The difference between Xubuntu and Windows that they’re different operating systems. Xubuntu is from the Unix-like family, generally called Linux. The main thing that make people usually ‘geeks or tech savy’ to install Linux is because it’s immune to Windows malware, and it doesn’t have its own viruses because ‘bad guys’ have no interest in it. Also beside that, all exploit holes discovered are closed/fixed in a short time.

Now usually you wouldn’t need any antivirus at all on a Linux based OS but for your convenient, Avast! is available for Linux: http://www.avast.com/linux-home-edition

Anyway, I recommend that you stay with Windows and wait for the next update.
