avast free 7.0.1474 expired. - what now?

Hello,

So, the program is telling me my system is unsecured, and I have 8 shields disabled.

Can this version still be safely used?

What can I do, and what should I do, please?

Thanks.

Windows 7 Home Premium - Service Pack 1

Hi, Asyn

Thanks for the quick reply

Will updating from within version 7.0.1474, update to version 17.7.2314?

This old version says under “Update program”:

“A new version of the program is available! Latest program version: 9.0.1506”

If I do the update within the program, will it skip 9.0.1506, and go to 17.7.2314?

About Avast & MBAM:

Should I add the exclusions to Avast and MBAM before or after I update avast?

Thanks

  1. Best you remove the old version first and run a clean install of the new one.
  2. Afterwards is OK.

Oh, by the way:

I haven’t uninstalled avast yet, but when I went to the PC’s control panel to uninstall avast, I noticed that Comodo Dragon is on the list of programs that I can uninstall with a size of 70.6MB (with a date of 11/23/2014). I must have installed this on 2014, but run into some problems when updating avast from 7 to a newer version, so I must have reversed avast back to 7.

Anyways, I’m pretty sure I had uninstalled Comodo back then… (can’t remember 100%)

Any recommendations as to what to do now, please?

Thanks

Uninstall Comodo first, then continue with the un-/reinstall of Avast.

Ok! New version is installed!

I restarted PC after uninstalling old version. After installing new version it didn’t ask me to restart anything, so I didn’t.

Questions about updating from now on:

—open avast application>settings>update> under “virus definitions” settings:

It’s currently set as “automatic update” and “enable streaming updates”

Should I leave it as default?

----open avast application>settings>update> under “program” settings:

It’s currently set as “automatic update”.

Should I change it to “manual update”? (You know, since I guess it’s recommended to use only a stable version…)

Thanks

  1. Yep.
  2. That’s up to you. (I’ve it set to ask)

Reboot anyway.

Ok, so here’s what I did, in this order:

I enabled the Firefox addon “Avast Online Security” that was automatically added to Firefox browser.

I added all the MBAM exclusions to Avast (I just copied/pasted the list that user “Firefox” posted at end of page). And added the 2 Avast folders to exclusions of MBAM application.

Noticed your reply to “reboot anyway”. Shutdown and turned on PC again.

Every exclusions are in place.

It seems things are running smoothly!

Thank you, Asyn!

Avast for life!

You’re welcome.
