avast! Free 7.0.1474 unable to automatically update: access is denied

Hello. I’ve used avast! as my anti-virus software for the best part of three years, and for the majority of that time I have had no issues. However, over the past couple of days my version seems unable to update from the client itself anymore, automatic updates aren’t working… and I cannot force them to happen by going into the program and telling it to update. Though, I can update virus definitions by downloading the separate .exe file from the avast! site and running it.

From what I can tell, it seems to be a permissions problem but I have no idea how to solve it; my account is the only one on my PC, meaning I am the administrator.

The error I receive when I try to update by going into the client is “Last Encountered Error: Access is Denied”. By delving into my avast! logs, it comes up with the following:

I first suspected that this might be a form of malware causing this problem, my initial scan with Malwarebytes hasn’t came up with anything. To conclude, I am perplexed as to what I need to do to solve this problem, and any help would be much appreciated.

avast! repair>>Control Panel>>Uninstall Programs>>select avast>>Select remove/change>>select repair>>once process is completed>>reboot!

Ah, I may have forgot to mention this. I’ve already performed this step, and I am still encountering the same problem.

The Latest avast built is buggy at the moment…I would suggest you to go back to 1466 :stuck_out_tongue:

1.To download version 7.0.1466 use this link http://www.oldapps.com/avast_antivirus.php?old_avast=8127?download
2.Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions…!!)
3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

Thank you very much. It seems like this has fixed it for me.
