I use avast! and the windows 7 firewall. 
Similar to Bob; however I use Avast Internet Security with Windows 7 Firewall as they are designed to run together. No problems either way! RR

u can go for Avast with privatefirewall 7 if u want… also another very good app… heard dat its lighter in size and more effective and comodo firewall

Even though my signature does not say so, I have used both Avast! Free and COMODO Firewall Free for more than two years with no problems.
Looking for an effective firewall? COMODO. Looking for a so-so antivirus? COMODO. Looking for an super antivirus. Avast!
CIS (COMODO Internet Security) is basically the firewall and antivirus bundled together. Antivirus does not do as well in repairing and cleaning infected files as some others do.
I did have a problem with Avast! and COMODO Firewall for a bit a while ago. Fixed that by changing settings on both that were causing one another to continually scan each others’ real-time engines. Caused an unacceptable slow-down on the machine I run.
Runs great now. That they both are free does not hurt. ;D
Yup! it depends on the user how the particular combo works for him/her…
