Avast Free Antivirus & 0x80004005.

I didn’t install anything big, but I recently installed Avast 2022 free antivirus on my computer, which led to a Windows file being corrupted. It produced 0x80004005. Somehow, Office 365 was removed from my computer which I cannot use the inbox and Words. Can someone please guide me to fix my issue?

I don’t know if you tried googling the error number and check any related to Office 365.

I did, but it didn’t solve my problem

I downloaded this software called Restoro. This tool fixed my problem.

I spoke too quick. It did not fix my issue. Does anyone have any solution?

  • Which version/build of Avast Free…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Which version/build of Avast Free…?
Version 3, serial number: 0970ef4bad5cc44a1c2bc3d96401674c

  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
    PC, Windows 10

  • Other security related software installed…?
Windows Defenders at the moment now

  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?
    AVG

Sounds like a scam (fake AV), there’s no version 3 for Windows.

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of any prior installed AV(s)…!!

Then:

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

This thing sucks!
I read the top 10 Antivirus reviews and thought I downloaded Avast from the official site.

After the 0x80004005 problem, I googled for a solution and clicked this site:

Before downloading Restoro, I read the Restoro reviews that it was a legitimate tool and was trusted by Microsoft. So I paid $49 for that tool but did not really fix it.

I reached out about my issue to Restoro and got a response after 24 hours. And this letter stated thank you for choosing Reimage. This statement led me to suspicion.

Finally, I am beginning to think this is a big scam, and I will not do what they said in the email. Quora confirmed it this is ransomware.
