Hi there.
Is there a link where I can download Avast! Free Antivirus 8.0.1497 where everthing was fine?
Cannot use version 9 because it is dramatically slowing down my two PCs (WIN 8 ) and prevents downlaods after more than 90% where finished…
I wouldn’t suggest going back to v8…
I’d recommend you try a clean install of v9. (I fear you have a corrupt install)
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup.exe
v8 and below : http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
v9: http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe
You can insert license file during install or after reboot. (If using paid version)
You’d rather stay with the current version, report bugs and then they’ll be fixed.
Well, I already uninstalled my PC and did a clean Setup.
And well - I tried it now for at least three times.
And . I am no newbie.
To be sure no relicts where still there I used Revo Uninstaller.
It is also a fact that when I restore a backup evertihng is running fine until I install v9
So - either v8 is somewhere avalable or I have to use a different Software after 15 years,
@ Bernie
On win8, if you update to windows 8.1, it will remove avast 8, so your position is unchanged, looking for an AV.
After so long I would certainly persevere for a little longer.
Personally I wouldn’t use Revo but the avast uninstall utility, after all who better to know the program than the developers.
It looks like the http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility link will only serve up avastclear.exe, and not the earlier version. The idea of the avast uninstall utility was that it was able to uninstall all avast programs.
Once you have downloaded the program and uninstall utility:
Note: save the copy of avastclear.exe so it can be reused as some users are reporting that after running it, it is self-deleting.
OK. Again. I have the Problem with 2014 on a freshly installed Windos 8 PC which I also have tried two times because I did not believe it, not Windows 8,1 (I am not crazy…).
So your uninstall suggestions are definitevly not the solution. The only one is to go back to the former Version.
Nevertheless. thanx for your help.
My comment about win8.1, was a cautionary note that if you do update to win8.1 and you have reverted to avast 8 when you update to win8.1 it will remove avast 8 and not many know about that little win8.1 gem removing AVs.
There are several reports of the win8.1 update doing this in the forums.
What happens if you disable the Web Shield…
Do the downloads happen 100%?
Are you using any other security software?
Also that I tried right before. I skipped the web shield during Installation. Same result…
So: I am Aware of the standard procedures in fault finding. Result: either the old one or a foreign one
And - just remarked. this happens on two differnet PCs with two different Windows 8 versions…
If the Web shield was not active when the downloads did not complete… it’s not Avast.
You’re using the Free version and the downloads only affect with the Web Shield. You said that it happened without it meaning that the issue (most likely) lures with something else.
Interesting. So why does it then work with the avast 8 web shield…?
Well. enough said. I stick now with Avira.
At the end it is your decision.
I just said what the facts are pointing to.
Without the Web Shield (Using the free version) Avast doesn’t interfere with downloads.
Are you using any other firewall?
Well. I use Outpost as a fiewall BUT how will a Firewall prevent download above 90%
And again: everything wprks fine with avast 8 and not with 9
.
I do not want a discussion I just needed the, as it seems, impossible solution of installing avast 2013…
Thanks for Your effort
You can go back to Avast 8.0.1497 but I’d rather want the issue to be resolved…
Anyways…
Avast 8.0.1497 : http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/download/0c203d8e8244458c5da81998eb76f523/
v8 and below : http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
v9: http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe
Note : Once installed make sure you change program update TO MANUAL.
Thank you. This solved my problems until I switch to a later v9 Version…
The mess is that it is updating 8.0.1497 automatically even though i explicit do NOT want it. Have tried it several times… >:(
Same Problem again!!! No download possible. I DO NOT WANT THIS …
Do you mean 8.0.1497 is espontaneously upgrading to avast! 2014?
Which download you can’t finish?
Exact same problem here…
OAKY, after 3 hours I finally found what the problem is.
You have to download 8.0.1489, do NOT download 8.0.1497 or anything after 8.0.1489 from oldapps.com for anything after 8.0.1489 is actually avast 2014!
Make sure to go into Settings and in UPDATES change the program update to MANUAL…I think default is to ask you but seems with all the changes there are times people awake to see their machine rebooted to latest version (2014). I’m on W7…hate W8…and I am waiting for Avast 2014 to get more solid…it is BETA software at best. I don’t want to bail on Avast…like most been using them for years but the change from V8 to V9 reminds me of the AVG change to their V9 (funny coindence) and it bricked thousands of PCs…and the version was plagued with terrible errors and it took them year+ to fix and they lost over half their customer base…me included. My take is they companies try to get bigger and be more things to more people to generate $$$…they buy small companies with software and want to integrate those utils…all of a sudden what was once a great product becomes bloat-ware. There are tons of examples in this industry…for A/V just look to Norton to Symantec (worst piece of junk software out there). The DVD burner guys are probably the best examples of these type of efforts.
I’m in “wait” mode on 2014…reading this forum daily to see the problems and resolutions…most now are to “turn off” features. I can tell you when I finally do upgrade it will be done with most features uninstalled with the baseline (whatever I can determine that to be) Avast A/V left. Anyway, have not given up on the Avast guys…but I just don’t have time to be BETA tester…it is one thing for an A/V to not catch every virus or malware, etc…it is another for machines not work right because of the software’s intrusion.
