Avast Free Antivirus can protect Ransomware?

Hello~~

I’m Avast Free Antivirus User.

Avast Free Antivirus can protect Ransomware?

Please (re)search before posting/asking.
Things like this have already been explained multiple times.

Yes, avast can and does protect you from certain ransomware.

It can also help get your information back for certain CryptoLocker infections:

avast! has pretty good detection of ransomware using “static” methods and will also gain several cool features in soon to be released new version. One of them is Behavior Shield and second one is planned for a bit later and will offer generic protection of user files while still allowing whitelisted apps to make changes on them.

from my testing avast has some of the better detection of ransomware. the key to ransomware is early detection imo. i test ALL av’s pretty extensively and avast is on the better end of my results though. some others fail miserably.

Avast! is very good against ransom malware and will only get better with the future versions.

We got Filerep and Evo-gen protecting us and even if they are missing a sample and you send them one they release a streaming update really fast.

Backend is getting some improvements this month so we will see a bump in detection which I am already noticing.

In short,Avast is just getting better and better at catching malware binaries.

Avast (AIS) on Windows 8.1 is asking me to turn off Malwarebytes else my computer will lose performance. Will I be just as safe then?

Yes.

Malwarebytes behavior based Ransomware protection is pretty weak. If you have to use anything extra with avast!, I suggest using RansomFree. It’s free, performs really well and has basically no performance impact. But avast! by itself is already super strong with ransomware and it’ll even get better quite soon.
