I’ve been using Avast Free Antivirus 2015 for only about 2-3 weeks and it worked great…at first. But then BSoDs started occurring prior to a week or so upon installation. I’ve updated my drivers and considering that my GPU is pretty new which is less than two months old, it didn’t seem to be a hardware related issue. I have just uninstalled Avast and currently using Avira to see how it goes. This makes me sad because I really liked the features and its overall performance. I’ll post an update later.
Did you remove any previous installed av and if so how exactly?
Did you remove it before installing avast?
What OS/SP?
Any other security (related) software installed ?
Yes, uninstalled Sophos(as I have probably mentioned in an earlier post)using the uninstall option in Programs and Features. Do I have to use an uninstaller to remove any items that may have been left behind? [EDIT]: I’ve deleted the registry keys and rebooted my PC.
I’m using Windows 7 Starter Service Pack 1 on a 32-bit OS.
Just Windows Defender and Malwarebytes, but the trial expired a week ago.
Already done that, thank you. I had two old antivirus programs(Norton and McAfee)that weren’t uninstalled completely from my hard drive which were probably causing the conflicts with Avast.
I’ve noticed that system lockups and crashes occurred often during internal network activity but there weren’t any when I was disconnected from the internet. As much as I really liked its cool features, I don’t think I will be reinstalling Avast any time soon. I’ve spent days figuring out whether it was my system that was failing or a hardware related issue and I don’t want to go through all that again. I think I’ll stick with Avira for now(I’ve been using it for more than four years on my other systems with hardly any problems at all)or just wait until a more stable, reliable version of Avast becomes available.
