Avast Free Antivirus definitions not updating

For at least the last 3 days, the latest free version of Avast Antivirus hasn’t been able to connect and successfully update the virus definitions, on Windows 10 Home v 1903.

Do you have any advice or information that can solve this or shed light on the issue?

I cannot see another recent thread on this topic, but your search function shows so many returns and so cluttered, I apologise if this is in the wrong place\already been asked.

Repair Avast:

  1. Avast GUI → Settings → Troubleshooting
  2. Click on ‘REPAIR APP’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

ZoneAlarm Free Firewall version: 15.8.043.18324, Vsmon version: 15.8.10.18303, Driver version: 15.1.29.17237
Mawarebytes free, not running in memory or autostarting, same with SuperAntiSpyware

I’m using my Win 8.1 netbook for the first time in days,
same issue.

Repair instructions didn’t solve the problem.

Avast version 20.3.2405 build 20.3.5200.561
Virus definition version "release date was 16 May 2020 13:27 (ver 200515—0)
Malwarebytes free
None.

So it might be on their end? I’ve seen older posts where they admit that, so I guess it’s possible; it’d be a relief to know, so I don’t have to go hunting down obscure potential issues…

Mine has now updated without me doing anything.

Make sure Avast isn’t blocked by your firewall and try again.

No, it wasn’t the firewall, though I’ve got sick of that for blocking other things; instead I’ve moved to a complete internet security package
