Avast stopped opening the app on Windows and started to consume a lot of CPU capacity, increasing the CPU temperature and running the fan like crazy. I have tried to repair the antivirus but that didn’t work. I then did a clean uninstall and re-installed it but the issue persists.
What can be the cause of it?

Yes, I restarted the system, but the problem persists. I still can’t open Avast, and Avast is loading at least 20% of the CPU’s capacity with very high power usage. When I open any media files or even a browser, the CPU capacity load from Avast increases, and the fan starts spinning loudly.
Further update on the situation. I decided to uninstall Avast, given no solution to the problem was found. I installed AVG and faced the same issue. High CPU usage and not being able to open the app/programme. I guess there are a lot of similarities between these two anti-viruses as they are owned and developed by the same company since 2016.

My technical knowledge is not that deep to understand this post from Microsoft and do anything about the problem. Still, I thought I share it here as someone may find it useful.
Avast purchased AVG some years back. The main difference between the two products
is the user interface.
More information about your system would be helpful, Processor, ram, how old?
What AV was installed prior to Avast? How was that AV removed?

I purchased it about 2.5 years ago.
No antivirus was installed before Avast. I installed Avast shortly after I purchased the PC and it worked well until recently.
