Avast Free antivirus offline will not install [solved]

Hello all!

I open a new topic, as nobody seems to follow the previous ones.

I’ve tried several times to install the 17.7 offline version, and it always fails to install.
I downloaded it from http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe so it is supposed to be the latest one.
The installation fails with error messages as follow (only some lines referring to an error) :

2017-08-28 17:37:32.468Warningshepsync[1440,992]Error in downloading config file from shepherd.ff.avast.com, error code 12007 (0x2EE7)

(this one many times)

2017-08-28 17:38:38.031Errordldwrap[1440,992]HttpGet: An error 41227 (0x0000A10B) [Downloader system error] has occured when downloading a file from ‘http://d0211227.iavs9x.u.avast.com/iavs9x/ais_gen_gui_cef_xp-7d7.vpx’. Next try: 1

etc.

I’ve read here and there on this forum that error 41227 is a problem of DNS, and that I have to change mine.
But at the time where I install Avast Free Antivirus offline, my computer is… offline. So obviously I can’t have a correct DNS, because I have no DNS at all (no internet connection).

I’ve noticed this behaviour (not installing offline) started at version 17.4, and goes on with versions 17.5, 17.6 end 17.7.
I’ve never encountered any problem installing offline version 17.1, and (if I remember correctly) never with versions 17.2 and 17.3.

So… when will we have a new version installing offline again ?

Thanks in advance,

hmm if you are upgrading, you might want to consider an avast removal tool to remove previous traces, then try again?

Thanks all for your replies.

For Avastfree2017 : I’m not upgrading, it’s a clean install on a clean new installation of Windows (hard drive has been formatted). As I have no antivirus program, no internet connection is established (personal rule). If it was an upgrade, I would have no problem : while a previous (version of an) antivirus is installed and active, I sure would have an internet connection and there would be no problem with DNS or other attempt to download additional packets.

For Asyn : whatever version of Windows (I’ve tried on WinXP, Vista and 7, and the result is same : fails to install).

For bob3160 : I’ve followed exactly this procedure (it’s not the first time I install a machine “from scratch”), and the result of installing versions 17.4, 17.5, 17.6 and 17.7 is always the same : fails to install

As said in my original post, I’ve never had problem installing avast free antivirus offline version 17.1. I discovered this behaviour with version 17.4.
So something must have changed in the installer, and it’s no longer an offline installer (although the name of the file claims it is).

Regards,

The off-line installer still needs an internet connection for XP as there is a component that isn’t in the off-line installer (this is I believe for the avastUI), this component is available in later OSes. Because of its physical size both components aren’t included, for XP the installation would subsequently be required to download and install this component.

This however shouldn’t be an issue in the later OSes, so there is something else going on other than what I said above.

Since V17.4: Offline installation is officially no longer supported on Vista and XP because new CEF (only one bundled in offline installer because of size) is not supported there and the online installer will download the correct CEF version.

No idea why it wouldn’t work on W7, though.

Asyn, thanks for the information.
That’s the beginning of an answer.
The question remains: Why doesn’t it install offline neither on XP nor on Vista, since there is at least one bundled CEF ?

For Win7, the question remains.

And it would be a good idea for Avast not to name any more this file “Avast_antivirus_setup_offline.exe”

Regards,

You’re welcome. (Because the included CEF doesn’t run on XP/Vista)

Thank you much all.

Now I’m not familiar with forums.
I consider I’ve had a good answer to my question, is there something else I must do to say I’m satisfied ?
Shall I have to modify my first message to say in the title I received a sufficient answer ?

Regards,

You can edit your initial post and add [Solved] to the title (if you like).
