Avast Free Antivirus periodically starts loading Disk at 100%

Why, when I do something on my Computer, not even in the Browser, Avast Free Antivirus just like that, out of the blue starts to load the Disk by 100% FROM ANY NISSUE! and I just have the whole system getting up tightly, nothing ABSOLUTELY does not open !!!, and so for 10-15 minutes. Only the mouse is found and does not react to any actions. The hard drive is lit red and nothing ABSOLUTE ANYTHING DOES NOT OPEN !!! HOW TO REMOVE THIS !!!
This antivirus has been with me for 4 years already, it is updated itself. It started about a year ago. I think the problem is in updating some of yours.

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Premium/One)
  • Which version/build of Avast…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Avast Free Antivirus
Version: 21.8.2487 (21.8.6586.697)
Windows 10
No more.
Only This one.

Your first action is to update Avast free, the latest version is 21.9.xxxx - https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=306968.0

Once updated restart your system and monitor to see if the problem still exists.

That said you say in the Subject says ‘Avast Internet Security’ (an old Avast Product) which could confuse.

This is my mistake. I made a typo. This is the Free Version.

OK, try the program update and system restart and monitor.

Updated the program to the latest version. Did not help. Now I was sitting again for about 10 minutes, I can’t do anything. All of a sudden it started again … Here is a screenshot of the Task Manager.

From your image I can’t see the problem relating to Avast in the column you have highlighted. Avast Antivirus is only showing 3.2MB for Disk activity or am I wrong (looking at the columns on my Task Manager).
Or is that after it has stabilised in order to access the Task Manager and capture the image ?

I don’t know how you have the task manager set up as I can’ replicate your image, e.g. If I click the Disk column then I can’t get the same order in the Processes and Name column.

No, the picture was taken while braking the entire system. All other Disk metrics are up 0.0%. There are no other orange stripes. Only this one. This Avast Tools is hiding under this name.
Here is the usual state.

I’m unable to replicate this, more so on your latest image, I can’t find the Avast Antivirus with the ‘Avast Tools’ so I don’t knowe what the ‘Avast Tools’ are.

My installation of Avast Free is customised and many components I haven’t got installed,

Do you use any other avast tools ?

Yes, I have all the checkmarks in this window

I think that you could try disabling the Cleanup and restart the system.

See if that a difference as that for me would be the component that could be considered a possible Tool.

You could then try the same with the Ransomware Shield, restart the system and monitor.

Outside of this I not familiar with these components as I don’t use them, sticking with what I consider the main AV components.
