AVAST FREE ANTIVIRUS SUBSCRIPTION [Resolved]

Hi- I just upgraded the program version (18.4.2338) & was wondering if the license will automatically renew or not. I see where I have 30-days before license expires.
Thanks

What do you mean by upgraded ?
Avast Free can be updated, ‘Upgrading’ usually means that you have elected to take a ‘Trial’ of one of the paid products. That would normally be on a 30 Day Trial.

Can you give more details on what it is that you did.

I meant that I just updated the program version. My apologies. I just wanted to know if the Avast Free Antivirus will automatically renew the license or would I have to manually renew?
Thank you

If you just ‘updated’ the program to version 18.4.2338, then whatever remained on the previous version is carried over. It isn’t renewed unless it needed it and that would have been true for the previous version. I have updated many times and it doesn’t effect my registration.

After the update, Avast put in an Upgrade button (see image 2) this is to try and get a sale, nothing more, nothing less.

Clicking on it throws up another screen I hate this it is a trap everything looks Greyed out (Inactive) when it isn’t. It looks like your only option is to click the Active Green ‘Select’ button. See image 3, it looks like this screen is stuffed (bug) as the button 'Your current free on the Left doesn’t work protection.

You would have to use the ‘X’ option top right of the screen to close the window without selecting the Avast Internet Security option. This however, throws up another screen ‘Start Free Trial’ and no other option like ‘No Thanks’ again you have to use the ‘X’ option top right of the screen to close the window without selecting ‘Start Free Trial’ button.

So this whole ‘Upgrade’ thing is a can of worms more likely to trick the user into at the least try the paid option and the route you have gone down.

Sounds more like you did an upgrade and now are on a 30 day trial of the paid version.
Check the About Avast option and post a screenshot. https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=218904.msg1461344#msg1461344

It could be worse, the 4th image I posted was directing me towards the 60 day trial and that normally requires completion of a payment mandate. Not a no strings attached 60 day free trial.

Personally, if a payment mandate/instruction hasn’t been completed or you would also need to cancel that. I would then try to uninstall this from Programs and Features as that should give the option to go back to the Free version.

But this part of the UI is totally messed up and I don’t know if that is by design to push users towards paid versions. Or it is just bloody poor design and implementation on this part of the UI.

There should never be a screen that requires action one way or another to only have one option, one active button and no way of saying No Thanks without having to kill the window.

Hello & thank you for the information. I just needed to know if the license will renew automatically in 29-days (arrow pointing to it) from now or do I need to manually renew? What is the procedure to manually renew if that is what I need to do?

You’re welcome.

It is likely that you will get a notification nearer the time, but if you ignored that, it should eventually renew automatically.

Considering there isn’t meant to be a requirement to register (and that should also apply to re-registration), I can’t understand why Avast have made such a pigs ear of this whole registration issue.

Personally I believe it is in the hope you might purchase one of the paid versions.

The old system where you had to register and re-register, was far simpler and easier to handle than this mess.

Thank you & question answered. How do I mark your last reply as “solved”?

You can modify your first post and add Resolved to the Title “AVAST FREE ANTIVIRUS SUBSCRIPTION [Resolved]” in the way I have done in my post.
