Avast (free av) Extension for Firefox causes Google searches to freeze or crash

Avast (free av) Extension for Firefox causes Google searches to freeze or crash, when I disable the Extension in Firefox, works perfect and keep in mind this is only in Google searches that there’s a problem!

I made a support ticket for avast concerning this issue, they wrote me back saying I need to completely uninstall avast and reinstall it and that they are working on this fix, did not sound too promising! (working on a fix) …I have seen many people with this issue and and well over a year, wonder how long it will take avast to correct this? I have updated, reinstalled avast, ran boot scans, etc, etc,- the fix needs to come form avast, nothing I can do until they send a patch update!

Here are some threads from Firefox on this matter:

I found yet another example of the “avast! Online Security” add-on causing hangups in Firefox, when searching on Google, this time on the avast forum.

This is only about the extension(s) that Avast add to Firefox and that aren’t fully compatible with the current Firefox release. Avast will have to release an update for their extension. The Avast program itself will still function in the background and protect you.

If AOS is giving you these problems with Firefox, disable it in the Add-ons > Extensions section. You will continue to be fully covered by the Webb and File shields, just not have the tracking/privacy that AOS gives. I am sure Avast are working on sorting it out, it does seem that not everyone suffers with problems, I use it with Firefox and I have no slowing, freezing or crashing with my browser because of it.

The OP have already posted this here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=143560.0

stay at one place…

Well i don’t want to do that, i just want it to work within my Firefox, how long will it take avast to fix this?? :-\

That is a question better asked of Avast directly rather than to other users on a user to user forum. The only accurate answer is “as long as it takes”. In the meantime you can disable AOS and get on with what you want to use your PC for (and you still have the protection of the shields), or not disable it (and put up with the restrictions), that’s your choice.

Agree with Rohugh and olddog. Its better to leave out the perfunctory perspectives and trust the core protection. I never encouraged that , and I have no issues.

This is also another bloat and a drag on the system. Why bother about a virus , when you are assured AVAST will trap it the moment it lands there…
