Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, after the most recent Windows update and control point.
I’ve tried restarting through the Windows Control Panel, I’ve tried Component Services. Nothing is happening.
I tried to get an update through the “About Avast”. it says “The RPC server is unavailable”.
I ran a troubleshoot through the Network and Sharing Center, just to be sure. I’m on the internet (as evidenced here).
Why can’t I access the RPC server?
This comes just a week or so after the update to the new Avast Free Antivirus, and immediately having a “Error 7601 – Windows is not authentic” problem.
I was doing just fine, until the update to the new Avast Free.
If this is an attempt to bump to the paid version, I’ll be very disappointed.
Oh, yeah, I almost forgot. I downloaded the Avast Support repair tool, but I haven’t opened it yet…
Can’t create a support ticket for the Free version, can I?
I had this problem with the “new” version, and after the most recent updates it’s happening again.
Avast Free 64-bit for Windows, v 17.4.2294 (build 17.4.3482.0)
OK, something else is odd. I go in through “about” and the program release date is 12/31/1969, 6:00:00 PM
Had to uninstall with Avast Clear in Safe mode, then reinstall. All seems OK now, but why the drama?
I found out what was wrong, at least on my XP pc - Avast needs the Terminal Services service on automatic and active , i had it set on manual and inactive since i don’t do remote.
So make sure it’s set on Automatic before rebooting.
The same applied in my case. As Azraelbuc said, I started the “Terminal Service” and UI showed up, there was no need to restart.
Thank you, Azraelbuc, you solved my issue in 30 seconds.
