AVAST free Boot scan deleted my thunderbird emails!

Running a boot scan avast found a virus
users.…\family.sbd\johnf infected by HTML:Facebook-A [Phish], Deleted
as a result a lot of important emails (evidence relating to my autistic son) could have been lost.
Recuva was unable to find the deleted file.

Fortunately I had a backup on another PC.
An AVAST scan now reports TWO email folders are infected by this “virus”

Is there a way to remove the virus or an INDIVIDUAL email?
I’ve exported all the mails as .eml files and avast reports they are all clean!

access your mail account from webmail … is mail still there?

anyway, why did you run a boot scan, any problems?

Unfortunately I’m unable to help with your issue.

But just wanted to add that I’ve run into the same issue.
Avast Internet Security Paid subscription, Same virus identified overnight in Thunderbird. thought it was reporting for a individual email and selected to resolve. Now I cannot access any of my email from the inbox.

As for what do you with Avast reporting an issue in other mailbox folders - I’d try to find a few other AV products to run similar scans to see what they return as results. Although my scan indicates the file was moved to the virus vault…it’s not there and therefore cannot be restored. So if you let Avast handle the file…you may no longer be able to restore.

Dev-Info: The underlying detection (common for all 3 cases) has been updated yesterday so that it shouldn’t happen on Thunderbird mailboxes anymore, and I’ll try to prevent their removal in a generic way in the next few days.
