Avast Free causing a problem with Firefox

I have this strange problem with Avast Free and Firefox (both v27 and v28).

When installed, it stops the windows file explorer working in Firefox to browse files/folders. This includes the “open file”, “save image as”, “save link As” as well as choosing a download folder etc.

I have tried the Avast add on disabled and enabled.

Uninstalling makes it working again.

What OS?
What other security software do you have now or ever had?
If uninstalled how was it removed?

XP.

Firewall is Online Armor.

Just regular uninstall via Revo Uninstaller. Once uninstalled and rebooted, it works fine. I reinstalled and it is not working again.

When uninstalling it is best to use the vendors removal tool.
You will find a list here http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle

What other security software have you ever had? ???
I’m thinking there might be some leftover drivers which may cause conflicts.

I have had Panda Cloud AV, Bitdender Free Cloud AV and MSE.

I have ran cleanup utilities for MSE and Panda. There doesn’t seem to be one for the Free Bitdefender software. It has made no difference.

Try a repair…Control Panel>Uninstall a Program>double click “avast”>click “repair”>reboot

If that fails try a clean install download and save the avast uninstall tool from here.
Run uninstaller. You will be directed to reboot into safe mode…click “yes”.
Reboot
Re-install avast.
Reboot and register or insert license.

The reason I asked you to do so much was to eliminate as many possibles as we could.
You will find Revo is not that good and most if not all of us don’t recommend its use.
The one good thing is that you no longer use MSE. Microsoft doesn’t even recommend its use.
