Avast Free constantly shows me offers

Hello. I’ve recently installed Avast Free Antivirus and sometimes it shows me a LOT of offers. Is there any way to disable this?
I know that you need to make money from free product, but why did you make it ad-supported product? :frowning:

On pictures you can see how it looks on my laptop.

P.S. Before ads, Avast was really the best free antivirus.

Thanks.

This is the direction Avast Marketing has chosen to go, there are many who are frustrated. :-\

Yes, enable silent/gaming mode.

Many people complain about it here

This is a very bad move. I’m sure that they will lose huge amount of users. :frowning:

I don’t like the silent/gaming mode because then I don’t see alert when I recive a virus.

They might already be loosing users:

Last update to the diagram was in april

I’m still hoping that they will remove this offers in new version of Avast Free.

You can turn them off in the paid versions.

I can see that.

You should still see virus alerts (test using the eicar virus test file) but administrative, informative or interactive notifications. The latter one you can get if you have the DeepScreen or Hardened Mode (Aggressive) options set, you wouldn’t see those.

Nope. I’ve tried to download EICAR test file and there is no alert. Just Opera showing me that page is not available. :frowning:

Well that is certainly a failure, as according to a very senior avast team member it should still alert.

I have just tested it I moved eicar.com test file from an excluded folder to another area and it was allowed. Not only that I was able to execute the eicar.com file as the notepad windows opened and was then closed.

But at no time did I get an avast alert whilst in silent mode. Whilst there was no alert, the eicar.com file was sent to the chest.

EDIT: change of attachment.

Same here. Maybe it’s a bug.

I have reported this thread in the hope that is will result in investigation by avast as this really shouldn’t happen.

Thank you.

Should I report bug to support via ticket?

You could and also give a link back to this topic.

That said to be a bug it would have be the opposite of what is meant to happen in silent mode and the only thing that I have to go on is a previous post by one of the avast team stating that alerts should still happen in silent mode.

I have reported bug. I’ll let you know when they reply.

Thank you, hopefully you will get one soon, but it could be a while depending on the priority assigned.

I do not object to that - they have to earn money somehow! What I do object to most strenuously is that even when you do pay for it it is still continually trying to up-sell you on other Avast products like VPNs and Cleanup. The difference between a freemium business model and blackmail is supposed to be that when you pay the premium they stop badgering you!

And while I’m moaning FOR PITY’S SAKES GIVE UP ON CAPTCHA’S the damn things stopped working sometime in the mid naughties!
