Avast Free doesn't remove torntv v10

This is my first attempt with forums and searching for any IT help so please be understanding. I have a HP Pavilion 6 laptop with a recent Operating System upgrade to Linux after numerous viruses and problems with Windows 7. I was told by going to the Linux OS and continuing with the Avast Free, I wouldn’t have any more problems.

However, I found that somehow on 9/22/14 the torntv.v10 program was installed on my laptop. The Avast Free shows “all good” on my laptop and scans don’t show it. I have tried to uninstall through my Control Panel, I have tried to disable the add ins on IE and Chrome and uninstalled Moxilla - all to no avail.

It has become a torn in my side which I cannot remove. Please can someone tell me how to get rid of this?

Um…

OK, so you’re CURRENTLY using Linux as an Operating system?

I don’t think the tools we use are Linux compatible.

Let me do some research and talking with the experts.

Edit: May I ask your Distro and version? (CentOS vXXX)

OK, so I do not blieve MBAM or Adwcleaner will help you since you aren’t on Windows.

Do the following Please.

Open Avast! UI > Scan > Settings, You should see something to the effect of “PUP & Suspicious Items.” Ensure that is CHECKED. ReRun Avast! scan. Does it detect it now?

TornTV is classified as PUP, which is enabled false by default.

Geeks 2 Go have a Linux section  http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/forum/177-linux/

That too! Go check G2G out if the PUP enabling thing doesn’t solve your issue. There extremely helpful, and will help you in any way possible.

Thank you for trying to help me - I really appreciate it! I’m not sure where to find the Linux OS answers tried the control panel and computer icons, but didn’t find Linux listed - but I see on the control panel I have Windows activated (?).

I am also having difficulties locating the PUP and Malware settings on the Avast Free program I have. I will try the Geekstogo site and make additional comments as needed.

Thank you very much!
