Hi I’m a new Avast! Free user. I’ve just installed Avast! Free because I’m running Windows XP on an old machine and MS Security Essentials support ceased yesterday.
My question is regarding what to do about the Windows Firewall. It is still running on my machine but I expect it also needs to be replaced.
I read elsewhere in this forum that Comodo free firewall is a good compatible firewall (as long as you install it correctly i.e. Comodo Internet Security: Right-click its tray icon > set “Defense+” to “disabled”. Or select the “Firewall only” configuration during installation. Make sure to enable rule creation in ‘firewall behavior settings’ (so you can modify program rules later).
What I need to know is, do I uninstall Windows Firewall first? If so how?
In fact, the Windows XP Firewall will do the job.
But, of course, you can get more flexibility, support and updates going for Comodo Free Firewall. I think you don’t need to uninstall Windows Firewall, just disable it before installing a 3rd party one.
Yes I believe that is correct Tech. Just disable it.
I personally have had it disabled for years. ;D
I preferred the flexibility of stand alone firewalls.
Thanks for your responses. Tech are you saying that the Windows XP Firewall will be ok even although XP will no longer have support? which means no updates etc…
