Avast Free for Home......taking up 100GB of space on my hard drive

Avast Free for Home
Windows 10

I was getting a message from Windows saying that almost all of my 256GB SSD was being used up. I checked the drive and saw that Avast was using 100GB of space. I uninstalled Avast, deleted the huge folder, then reinstalled Avast.

How do I prevent this new installation of Avast from taking up such a huge amount of space on my hard drive again?

Depending on the components you install, avast takes (roughly) 1 - 1,5 Gb not 100.

Where there e.g. a lot of files in the virus chest ?

Of course, I should have noted where the files were on the hard drive before I deleted them and reinstalled! I’m not sure where they were. They were in a subfolder in the Avast directory. I figured they must be some sort of log file(?) that Avast creates and they just accumulated over a long period of time. I was wondering if there was a way to keep those file sizes in check, whatever they are.

There are some settings you can make for the log files.
If you have set e.g. “verbose logging” and “append”, they can get large.
But even then, 100 GB seems really large to me as they are just text files.

I would say , just keep an eye on the folder size and if it increases a lot start checking things.

OK, will do. Just noticed the interface looks different than what I had before, even though I had Avast set-up to auto update itself. Perhaps I had an old version.
