Avast free freezing pc?

Hi there, I have a problem and im not really sure of the solution but I do believe I have found the issue for now at least

Over the past few weeks/months my pc has been driving me crazy, it would freeze all the time, sometimes after a few minutes other times after 20 mins or so. I couldn’t do full system virus scans as it would freeze half way through, I had thought it was a problem perhaps with my hard drive or that it needed defragging but again I couldn’t get through all of that. I installed another programme to scan my pc for problems and it speeded up my pc somewhat but still it would crash. Then today I read a post on another forum suggesting avast could be the problem. I have been using free avast for years and I love it, but I uninstalled it about an hour ago and my pc hasn’t crashed once , so whereas its far from conclusive, this is the longest my pc has stayed on without freezing for a month(possibly longer as in all honesty I havnt really used my pc for longer than a few mins at a time all year as ive been busy gaming on consoles most the time, but because its getting towards xmas I usually browse online to give me ideas).

Anyway like I said I love avast, but I don’t know what to do and would appreciate any advice please

see instructions here https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

run malwarebytes according to instructions … post log here

hopefully this attachment worked? its from the malwarebyte anti malware scan log

this is from the farbar recovery scan

this is the final text from the aswMBR scan

can I ask if this information will help you figure out why avast kept freezing the pc?
(ie so I can eventually reinstall it)

Woooow … It seems you had evry PUP known and then some. :o

Clear your browsers with AdwCleaner and post log
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

When done, run Farbar tool again and attach new fresh log
I will notify removal team so they can check that log for leftovers

may I ask what a pup is?
on it now

heres the log from that thing

PUP = not virus / Possible Unwanted Program … Crap that comes bundled with other downloads

Malwarebytes pup criteria https://www.malwarebytes.org/pup/

and heres the log from farbar again

I see you have several programs from IObit … I recommend uninstalling

You may want to read this

ill have a read of that later

thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.
I have advanced system care by them (iobit), my current pc is decent anyway, but before I bought this one a year or two ago advanced system care made my old pc run like new for a long time (I don’t really understand how it does it tbh, but it made my pc run loads faster). I recently paid for it for several machines so don’t really want to uninstall it while its still doing its job.

Any idea why avast kept freezing my machine? Like I said in my first post I didn’t want to believe it was my anti virus but very bizzare that since I uninstalled avast it hasn’t crashed again since

1. Open notepad and copy/paste the text present inside the code box below.
To do this highlight the contents of the box and right click on it. Paste this into the open notepad.

2. Save notepad as fixlist.txt to your Desktop.
NOTE: => It’s important that both files, FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

3. Run FRST/FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needed a restart please make sure you let the system to restart normally and let the tool completes its run after restart.

The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach it to your reply.
Note: If the tool warned you about the outdated version please download and run the updated version.

Uninstall Bitdefender, have orphans
http://www.bitdefender.com/support/How-to-uninstall-Bitdefender-333.html

I have advanced system care by them (iobit),
more then that (IObit) C:\Program Files (x86)\IObit\Advanced SystemCare Ultimate 7\ASCService.exe (IObit) C:\Program Files (x86)\IObit\IObit Malware Fighter\IMFsrv.exe (IObit) C:\Program Files (x86)\IObit\Smart Defrag 3\SmartDefrag.exe

advanced system care can be replaced with CCleaner https://www.piriform.com/ and it is FREE
malware fighter replaced with Malwarebytes … see all the PUP it removed, that IObit did not

Beware: IObit Malware Fighter http://www.davescomputertips.com/beware-iobit-malware-fighter/

also uninstall
(McAfee, Inc.) C:\Program Files (x86)McAfee Security Scan\3.0.207\SSScheduler.exe

Any idea why avast kept freezing my machine?
sure it was avast? you had and enormus amout of PUP + two Keygens, one that contained a trojan according to Malwarebytes running cracked software is a safe way to get infected. When those nice guys give away these free softwares they usually bundel it with a extra program ....that they dont tell you about also, many help forums refuse to help those running cracked software

follow argus instructions

thanks for the help I appreciate it

just so im clear, I save the text to my desktop , and there has to be the FRST text saved as a notepad also on my desktop (or do I put them both in the programme file?)

and pondus I don’t know what caused my pc to crash definitely, that’s why I asked but I did think it was strange that someone else I found on net said unstalling avast would stop it from crashing and when I did uninstall avast it did indeed stop crashing. I am not greatly technically minded when it comes to computers, but usually if it looks like a duck and quacks…Perhaps theres another explanation? Any idea why it was crashing, or perhaps why it stopped crashing when avast was removed?

btw I didn’t know about iobit, I will have a more detailed read through later, but I was genuinely shocked at them stealing things etc. Will the ccleaner make my pc run fast like asc does then? or perhaps recommend me with a programme that does everything like that does. Asc got great reviews for exactly that from a few “reputable” sites hence why I paid for it (I don’t usually pay for anything, but it was so well reviewed and when I tried the free one it really made a huge difference to my machine)

be back later, and if im right what I asked argus Ill do what he asked?

Where did you save the frst.exe program? … frst fix must be saved same place as you have the frst icon … When you run it according to argus instruction it will find it and execute instructions in it…if not saved same place it will not work

Think it saved it to “my downloads” folder, will check later

May I ask what this fix will do exactly ?

Btw was the bit at the end of argus post also aimed at me? Remove but defender have orphans ? Not sure what that means

You had BitDefender Antivirus is not uninstalled properly.

C:\Windows\system32\Driversbdfsfltr.sys – > BD driver (orphans)

there u go

wasn’t sure what version of bit defender I had (don’t even remember having it ever), so I just ran the free uninstall one, hopefully that got rid of the remaining files

The driver has been deleted.

Re-run FRST and click scan.
