Avast! Free Installation Problem

I was having a problem with the virus definisions’ update so I decided to reinstall avast. Good so far. But now, when I’m trying to install it, I get this message “There was an error while completing the setup process” and I don’t know what to do :-[

Any ideas?

You can try an Avast Repair:

  • Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus.
  • Scroll down and choose Repair function in the pop-up window.
  • Reboot.

If this does not fix the problem, which it may not, you will need to uninstall Avast and do a clean install using the Avast Uninstall Utility tool.

Normally if you have a problem with an Avast update, you should not have to uninstall. A simple reboot or forcing a manual update, or waiting for the next update will do the trick.

I uninstalled Avast using the utility tool but I still get the same error message when I try to install it again :frowning:
I deleted all avast files and folders which remained after the uninstallation and it’s still the same.

What other security software do you currently have or did you have in the past on this machine including:

  • Antivirus (AV)

  • Firewall (FW)

  • Trial versions of AV, FW and other security programs

  • Other security software

  • If they were in the past, how did you remove them (the vendor’s uninstaller’s tool or another way)?

do you try it with safe mode?

I have been using avast from the very first beginning, when I bought my computer, but once I installed ESET NOD32 and removed it from Set Program Access and Defaults → Change or Remove Programs so I can get back to Avast!. That was long time ago and I didn’t had any problem since now.

Since security software needs to be removed by the vendor’s uninstaller tools or it will leave remnants behind, which can cause conflicts with other security installation, try these sites for ESET NOD32 uninstaller tool:

Make sure you reboot your machine after running the uninstaller tool.

No other security software? Firewall?

Then try the Avast repair. If this doesn’t fix the problem, then do an Avast uninstall / clean install. Let us know if this fixes the problem.

Didn’t worked :frowning: I successfully installed 4.8… i don’t get it… :smiley:

P.S. Installed the latest avast over 4.8 and it finally worked :wink:
